Honeywell HZ-709 7 Fin Oil Filled Radiator Heater
The Honeywell HZ-709 is delivered to you in a heavy-duty cardboard box with the equipment inside well wrapped around with solid Styrofoam. There is hardly any chance of its getting scratched in such professional packing. Apart from the radiator unit there are four plastic casters, two brackets, two u-bolts, owner’s manual, and a warranty card. There is a free kit of basic tools needed for the assembly requires to be put on the casters. But that’s the easiest thing to do. The instructions are clear, brief and very simple to understand.
Once you have assembled the unit it can be plugged in. The digital settings can be adjusted very easily. It has one power button and there are three two-way switches. One switch can adjust the setting of the thermostat, the maximum limit being eighty-five degrees Fahrenheit. The second switch permits adjustment of power from low (600 watts) to medium (900 watts) to the highest (1500 watts). The last switch operates the timer, enabling you to switch off the unit at a predetermined hour. The temperature switch has the provision of changing the reading from Fahrenheit to Celsius within the first few seconds of switching on the unit. I’ll not be doing justice to the product if I do not mention here that the unit is so silent that at times I really had to check if it were working or not.
A couple of weeks ago when the cold wave brought down temperature and kept it floating around freezing point at night, I decided to buy this heater from Target. I do not have a central heating system, though I have about twenty space heaters. So far I had never tried any oil filled radiator type heater. Though it was the most expensive, I bought it in anticipation of its efficient performance and I’m glad to say that it has really surpassed all my expectations.
I kept the heater in my bedroom sized about 700 square feet (26×26). I wanted the heater to be in the central part of the room but the cord was not long enough. So I adjusted it as close to the middle as possible by keeping it as far away from the wall as I could. I switched on my 52″ ceiling fan at the lowest speed. Around five o’clock in the evening I turned it on at its maximum rating of power and temperature. That evening the temperature was expected to go below freezing point. By ten o’clock, when I was ready to go to sleep I checked the temperature to be at 72o. Next morning when I got up I could feel the warmth in the room and on checking the temperature I was amazed to find it was 78o!
What’s astonishing to learn is that the unit itself doesn’t get hot to the touch like any quartz radiant heater! Though it is hot, I don’t consider it a fire hazard like quartz heaters are. Even when I go out of home, I leave it on without any problems. I continue to wonder how it performs so admirably. I haven’t experienced cold in my bedroom for the last two weeks. The temperature in my bedroom doesn’t go beyond seventy-eight degrees. And, I like it to remain around that level only. It was worth the expense that I incurred and I plan to buy a few more units to cover the rest of the rooms as well.
Delonghi TRD0715T Oil-Filled Radiator
I use to have a Delonghi oil filled radiator and it served me for 7 years. My office was not insulated at a decent level, but still, the temperature was quite tolerable because of that useful heating device. And now I bought another product that I want to use at home for the same purpose. It’s a Delonghi TRD0715T oil heater.
This is a convection unit, and it works by drawing the cool air from the room to the warm air of the heating source. These type of units are served for area heating and your entire room should be warm in about 30 minutes. Of course, it all depends on the size of the room and the insulation you have.
A radiator is made out of rustproof and resilient metal that has diathermic oil enclosed inside the structure. The heat radiates with the help of several thermal tunnels that are placed on the top. Other hot elements are enclosed and are out of reach for children and pets. The exterior of this Delonghi oil heater is just like any other radiator.
You get few decent features with this unit, such as 24 hours programmable timer, an adjustable thermostat and three different power settings. You can use 600, 900 and 1500 Watts of power to heat up your rooms. In case the temperature in your home falls bellow 44 F, the oil radiator has antifreeze feature that turns the heater on. I find this to be very convenient and useful. You can’t watch everything by yourself, so it’s great to have some help.To add to this, a automatic shut-off switch is installed, in case the device is knocked off or overheating may occur.
You get wheels with this radiator, just like many others portable heaters have, and a power cord.
I want to remind you about something here, some basic rules that you may not know. But if you do, keep reading them, just so you do not forget them.
Buy a UL listed space heater. If a unit you want to purchase is not UL listed, do not buy it. Turn off the unit whenever you are leaving home. I know that there are safety features installed, but you never know what may happen. It’s better to use the program to pre-heat your room 15 minuts before you come home, than to leave it on during the entire day.
You should keep any object 3 feet away from the heating unit, at all times. And I suggest you do not use extension cords at all. If you must, use them with a power protector. And as a final note, keep the oil filled heater away from the foot traffic. Put it at the side of the room, far away from anything that may hit it or make some kind of trouble.
